Where did he go? MCB researcher on academic stay in Finland

One of MCB’s researchers was away from the ULB for a while. Indeed, Victor Wiard (ULB) had the opportunity to stay four months at the COMET research center of the University of Tampere (Finland) with the help of Innoviris and the FNRS. COMET combines practical orientation with an ambitious theoretical approach to the field of media and communication research. It has gained national and international recognition for its research since its founding in 1996. For its 30-40 researchers, COMET provides a lively and collaborative working environment with an expanding international dimension.

During his academic stay, Victor focused on structuring his thesis. But this was not the only thing he did…

Update on survey and census

During the months of March and April MCB researchers prepared a press conference and finished the report they wanted to present then. In this context, Victor, together with David Domingo (ULB) published a first census of media workers in Brussels, providing an overview of the diversity of workers in the city.

In the same time, survey dissemination and data collection is now over. Because of everybody’s help and interest we collected more than 500 answers which will help us deepen our understanding over media workers’ profiles, skills and mobility. Prize winners have been randomly selected and will be contacted over the summer to receive one of the 20 movie tickets or one of the 20 external power banks.

Branch out and connect during the academic stay

This academic stay also allowed the researcher to branch out and connect with the international community of media scholars working in Northern Europe, such as during a doctoral seminar in Tampere and the GeoMedia conference in Karlstad (Sweden).

Coming home with some answers but also a lot more questions, Victor will now share his time between the ULB and the VUB strengthening the collaboration among researchers of the Media Clusters Brussels team.
